with Transrotor’s Quintessence for those with deep pockets. The luxury turntable
comes with a lustrous layer of chrome and gold to give it classier look. The
turntable appears to be something more like a piece of art crafted for the
purpose of showing up in a museum. It is designed to create quality music output
by zeroing noise and vibrations by means of isolating the pick-up arm from the
rest of the body. As the product page suggests, the clear style of the device,
the audio output of highest quality, exclusivity and the absolutely mature
musical qualities are a few advantages of the turntable that convince a buyer to
shell . By incorporating all standard traits of the manufacturer, this device
utilizes hydrodynamic bearings with black acrylic gilt weights embedded in the (bearing)
reservoir. The turntable weighs around 70 kg.
Pretty
rare, almost non-existent. According to one service engineer, the Dragon CT was
much more reliable and better sounding than the bigger TX-1000. I wouldn't know
but the goal was basically the same - and the same as that used in the original
Dragon cassette recorder, only on a larger scale.Off-center records are a pain
and there isn't much one can do if the record is pressed that way ! Well, there
is something one can do : search for the real center of the record and adjust
the turntable platter to budge so that the off-centered record can be read as if
it were not off-centered. No small feat on a cassette recorder (for proper head
azimuth) but imagine that on a record player !So, the little arm at the back
scans the record groove, decides where the "absolute center" is and the whole
turntable assembly then moves accordingly - the cart is no more pushed around
left and right and just reads the groove.The main tonearm was sourced from
Jelco.UPDATE ! If the TX-1000 was designed by Etsuro Nakamichi (but quite
probably built by Micro Seiki), the Dragon CT was "sourced" elsewhere :
Nakamichi commissioned Junichi Okumura, then at Fujiya Audio Ltd, to design the
CT after the basic goal outlined by Etsuro !This explains the large differences
in approach and engineering between the TX and the CT.Fujiya was later in the
1980s absorbed by NEC and units such as the Dragon CT were scrapped from the
books. And when NEC shut down its own audio/video activities in the mid 1990s,
well, the Dragon CT definitively vanished from the landscape.Thanks to

company based in Bridgend, south Wales and committed to bass. It could be argued
quite easily that REL founder Richard E. Lord put the subwoofer or sub-bass
loudspeaker system on the hi-fi map. Before he appeared on the scene the
subwoofer was not the kind of thing any self respecting audiophile would
consider giving house room to. This may have been because most of the species
were sold with satellite loudspeakers or simply because no one had made a
serious subwoofer before, one that could enhance rather than muddy the quality
of regular speakers.The key feature that makes REL subs so easy to get a good
result with is the ability to adjust the roll-off point of the sub so that it
marries seamlessly with the stereo speakers. REL subs are not designed to
increase the amount of bass produced by a system but to extend the bandwidth of
the existing speakers. For a stereo speaker to be able to extend down to the
12Hz (-6dB) claimed for the Stadium III it would have to be as big as a fridge,
a big fridge at that. The reason the REL is able to do that with a 65 litre
cabinet is that it is actively driven, it has its own 200 watt MOSFET power amp
and electronic crossover which means that it can boost the output at very low
frequencies. In other words it drives the big ten inch Volt drive unit harder
therefore producing more bass energy.Another reason for REL's success is
inclusion of both high and low level signal inputs, this means that you can feed
the sub exactly the same signal that you send to your speakers via the high
level input. The connection is made with a three core cable that hooks up to
your amplifier's speaker outputs. There is of course the low or line level input
but this is really only appropriate for surround sound processors which have a
dedicated LFE (low frequency effects) output. Sound quality To integrate the
Stadium III with your speaker traditionally requires that you roll the sub in at
the point your speaker rolls off and then set output level to match the speaker.
However, I have found that if you set roll off three or four dB higher than the
speaker's roll-off and turn the output level down a bit you can get a better
result. There are many surprising aspects to the sound of this sub not least
being the way that it enhances the high frequency performance of all the
speakers I have tried it with. It introduces a sense of open spaciousness that
is hard to accredit to an improvement in low frequency extension and power. It
must be something to do with the way that bass defines a space but is not an
easy phenomenon to explain. Yet it is not in the least bit subtle and gives the
REL considerably more appeal than you would expect an extra octave or two in the
bass to produce.The bass does of course help matters considerably, it adds a
foundation to the sound that gives the rest of the range something to work from,
something solid. This seems to apply regardless of the bass content of the music.
There is a tendency to think that only your Prodigy and Grace Jones albums will
sound a lot better with a decent sub but the Stadium III boosts everything you
play. The more familiar and well loved the album the more exciting the result,
even albums like Jeff Beck's Wired, which is clearly fantastic yet can sound
compressed, takes on a whole new sense of purpose and solidity with this sub.All
this is achieved without you thinking wow there's loads of bass, in other words
you are not skewing the balance of your system, the main speakers sound the same
but better. And if you turn the sub off you don't think where has the bass gone,
you think why is the sound small and relatively flat. You can set it up so that
it goes boom and everyone knows there's a sub in the room - which can be fun I'll
grant you - but for long term musical satisfaction an integrated sound is the
way forward, the approach that's going to reveal more of the music and the venue
it's played in.

Ersteigern Sie eine Legende! Die Stereoendstufe Threshold SA 3 aus einem
Nichtraucherhaushalt ist in einem sehr guten optischen Zustand, technisch
einwandfrei. Es sind leichte Gebrauchsspuren vorhanden , die allerdings erst bei
genauem Hinsehen ins Auge fallen. Vergleichbare Geräte in diesem guten Zustand
werden sehr selten angeboten. Betrieben habe ich das Gerät eher selten, da ich
als Sammler noch andere hochwertige Geräte besitze. Die Endstufe ist ein pure
Class A-Gerät d.h., sie wird bei Gebrauch sehr warm. Deshalb sind die
überdimensionierten Kühlrippen keine Show, sondern zwingend für die Wärmeabfuhr
notwendig. Aufgrund dieser Technik ist das Gerät klanglich ein absoluter Traum.
Betrieben habe ich die Endstufe an einer Infiniti Gamma. Wer diesen Lautsprecher
kennt der weiss, dass es kaum kritischere Klangwandler gibt. Die techn.
Qualitäten, insbesondere die akustischen Möglichkeiten in Verbindung mit
passenden Lautsprechern sind phänomenal. Sie steigern auf eine Stereoendstufe,
die allein durch durch den massiven Materialeisatz, eine imposante Erscheinung
ist. Das Gerät wird mit techn. Beschreibung bzw. Betriebsanleitung (engl.) und
Netzkabel geliefert. Gerne würde ich das Gerät bei mir persönlich übergeben,
Abholung ausdrücklich erwünscht! Sollte das Gerät geliefert werden, würde ich
dieses mit Hermes abwickeln. Bitte erkundigen Sie sich bei Hermes über die
Lieferkosten. Das Gesamtgewicht liegt bei ca. 30 kg. Zum Schluß noch einige

Nella storia della Mark Levinson ci sono
stati molti prodotti che hanno rappresentato vere e proprie pietre miliari. In
quest’illustre gruppo figurano il pre phono JC-1 (1972), il preamplificatore
ML-1 (1977), i finali mono ML-2 (1977), il primo componente “Reference”, il
finale mono N°20 (1986) e i leggendari Processore Digitale Reference N°30 (1991)
e Pre Reference N°32 (1999). Questi prodotti, sin dalla loro presentazione,
erano ovviamente destinati a diventare dei classici. In molti casi questi
classici erano notevolmente più costosi di qualsiasi altro prodotto della stessa
classe, e spesso offrivano meno funzioni (o meno potenza) rispetto ad apparecchi
concorrenti. Tuttavia sono diventati dei classici. Questi ed altri leggendari
prodotti Mark Levinson condividono una straordinaria caratteristica,
surclassando, infatti, qualsiasi altro apparecchio della loro categoria.
Il motivo principale per possedere un prodotto Mark Levinson è il livello delle
prestazioni offerte, e sono proprio le eccezionali prestazioni quello che
caratterizza il Media Console Mark Levinson N°40. Il N°40 è probabilmente il
prodotto più innovativo dei 29 anni di storia del marchio, sicuramente destinato
ad entrare nella lista dei classici. Come i prodotti Reference anche il N°40 va
considerato uno spartiacque, rappresentando una transizione importante tra come
sono stati progettati i prodotti nel passato e come lo saranno nel futuro. Come
i prodotti Reference il N°40 ingloba una raffinata esecuzione di molte
tecnologie sviluppate e sperimentate in apparecchi Mark Levinson precedenti,
insieme a nuovi dispositivi e nuove tecniche. Molte innovazioni tecniche
sviluppate per il N°40 troveranno spazio in futuri progetti Madrigal. In
effetti, è già successo: sia il CD Processor Mark Levinson N°390S, di
eccezionali doti timbriche, che il Proceed AVP2, nuovo pre audio/video, ne hanno
già beneficiato. Perché, allora, il N°40 non è stato designato come prodotto
Reference? Per quanto buono sia, infatti, il N°40 non eguaglia le prestazioni di
quattro Pre Reference n°32 e di quattro Processori Reference N°30.6. Le sue
prestazioni sono molto vicine ai prodotti Reference, e la combinazione del N°40
con i N°32 e N°30.6 offre grandi risultati. Configurazione modulare Il N°40 è un
progetto modulare in grado di accettare le più svariate configurazioni: la sua
configurazione standard viene incontro alle esigenze della maggior parte degli
impianti. Sia il processore audio che quello video hanno diversi “slot” liberi
per espansioni tramite i moduli opzionali, dei quali alcuni già disponibili:
moduli per ulteriori ingressi/uscite, per ulteriori R-Zone, per speciali
esigenze di comunicazione, per interfacce sicure audio o video, per la gestione

utente grafica La caratteristica del pannello frontale che attira
maggiormente l’attenzione è la presenza di un piccolo schermo LCD sul processore
video. Questo schermo può essere usato in molte, utili, maniere inclusa quella
di accedere a tutti i menù di setup e relative opzioni di controllo attraverso
la nostra interfaccia utente grafica (GUI). La GUI (che è anche disponibile
sull’uscita monitor o sovrapponibile all’uscita video main) rende la taratura di
un sistema complesso operazione relativamente semplice, guidando in maniera
logica nel processo. Questa GUI è implementata nel dominio video digitale per la
massima chiarezza e intelligibilità e incorpora diverse tecnologie proprietarie
Madrigal. La sua struttura gerarchica è logica e facilmente navigabile,
presentata visivamente in maniera da sapere sempre dove si è nel sistema a menù,
e come ci si è arrivati. È praticamente impossibile perdersi, anche se si è ai
livelli gerarchici più profondi. Il Mark Levinson N°40 è una centrale di
controllo di estrema potenza e flessibilità, anche per i più avanzati sistemi
d’intrattenimento domestici. Tuttavia il possedere queste straordinarie capacità
può non sempre essere un vantaggio, fatto al quale la Madrigal è molto
sensibile. Quando si progetta un prodotto di alte prestazioni come il N°40
occorre sempre tenere a mente a che tipo di utente l’apparecchio è rivolto. Da
un lato prodotti come questo attraggono gli “utenti avanzati” che pretendono il
massimo delle prestazioni e della funzionalità. Dall’altro attraggono anche
quelle persone che apprezzano i migliori prodotti in genere, siano essi di
natura elettronica che automobili di lusso. Oltre a questo, ambedue queste
categorie hanno altri componenti della famiglia che usano l’impianto e non sono
certo dei patiti dell’elettronica. Come soddisfare esigenze così diverse? Il
livello di sofisticazione richiesto dall’utente avanzato può intimidire l’utente
occasionale, eppure ambedue sono importanti. In prodotti come questo ci sono
spesso conflitti tra tre opposti fattori:Funzionalità (fa tutto quello che la
gente vorrebbe che facesse?) Facilità d’uso (è semplice e intuitivo per
l’uso quotidiano?) Facilità di impostazione (è un “plug and play” nel
miglior senso del termine?) La gran parte dei prodotti sono validi solo in
una di queste aree. I prodotti veramente eccezionali eccellono in due aspetti su
tre. Con il N°40 si è fatto il massimo per curare tutti e tre gli aspetti. In
quei casi dove è risultato impossibile massimizzarli tutti si è deliberatamente
resa più laboriosa la fase di set-up, piuttosto che compromettere le altre due.
Dopo tutto la fase di impostazione è una sola, mentre funzionalità e facilità
d’uso sono invece fattori quotidiani. Stadi di Alimentazione I migliori circuiti
sono limitati nelle prestazioni se non possono contare su delle stabili
fondamenta sulle quali costruire le proprie forme d’onda. Sia il Processore
Audio sia quello Video del N°40 usano stadi di alimentazione ibridi switching/lineari.
Questi circuiti assommano i vantaggi delle alimentazioni lineari a basso rumore
con un convertitore CC-CC d’alta efficienza e bassa temperatura d’esercizio. La
tensione alternata in ingresso è convertita in due tensioni continue isolate e
non regolate. Come in tutti i prodotti Mark Levinson s’inizia con un
trasformatore a basso rumore, un rettificatore a basso rumore di commutazione e
generosi condensatori d’alta qualità. Queste tensioni sono quindi trasformate in
quelle richieste da circuiti switching di regolazione. Questi circuiti sono
stati progettati e ottimizzati dalla Madrigal per la massima stabilità e per il
minimo rumore RF. L’uso di topologie inerentemente a basso rumore come quelle
dei converter forward e Cuk, così come avanzati circuiti integrati switching di
regolazione, induttanze toroidali e nuovi condensatori ceramici permettono a
queste alimentazioni di ottenere livelli di rumore tipici di quelle lineari.
L’alta efficienza di questi stadi di regolazione permette di soddisfare le alte
richieste di corrente del N°40 senza generare calore eccessivo e avendo scarsa
sensibilità alle fluttuazioni della corrente di rete. I vantaggi di questa
soluzione ibrida hanno permesso di ottenere pura corrente continua in tutti gli
stadi, con minor ingombro e minor calore di quelli possibili con
un’alimentazione esclusivamente lineare. In altre parole l’approccio ibrido ha
permesso di realizzare gli obiettivi di progetto, mantenendo ancora ragionevoli
le dimensioni dell’apparecchio e la temperatura d’esercizio. Come in tutti i
progetti di alte prestazioni Mark Levinson il N°40 fa uso estensivo di stadi di
regolazione locali a basso rumore. Le superbe prestazioni di svariate decine di
questi stadi forniscono una sorgente di corrente pura, veloce e a bassa
impedenza per i circuiti adiacenti

an analog output signal at fixed line level. Operating format is an ultra linear
1 bit system performing @ 24 bit equivalent static linearity in a dual parallel
balanced differential configuration. Computer optimized passive filtration

The Denon DCM-5000 offers a variety of control options that make it easier than
ever for the user to organize and access an entire CD music library. Standard
control functions such as play, stop, random play and so on can be activated
from either the ergonomically designed front panel or via the supplied remote
control—but that’s just the beginning. The user can also connect a standard PC
keyboard directly to the DCM-5000 and enter disc/name information into the
DCM-5000’s memory; once entered, this information is displayed for easy
identification when the disc is selected for playback. Each CD can be assigned
to any of up to eight musical categories (i.e., "Rock," "Jazz," "Country" and so
on), and the user can choose to listen to only CDs within a particular category

When
you meet someone at a party or down the pub and get talking about hi-fi, here's
a great way to find out just how well they know the subject: If they reckon
Nakamichis are the best cassette decks ever made, they know something. If they
say the Dragon is the best, they think they know a lot. If they say it's the
CR-7E, they really do. You see, the Dragon - wonderful, mad creation that it is
- isn't actually the best thing the legendary Nipponese cassette masters did.
It's a big, bold, lavish technological tour-de-force, that's for sure - but it
was never their last word in terms of sound quality. That accolade went to the
ZX-9, and then the CR-7E came along with better record/ replay electronics and
sounded even better still.
The Dragon isn't a one-off product. In Japan, Nakamichi have traditionally been
known as cassette deck specialists, but actually produce a whole range of audio
electronics - from receivers to CD players - most of which is pretty
unremarkable stuff. Commonly available in Japanese hi-fi shops at prices some
40% lower than over here, it's seen as good, solid, respectable fare - quite
like Audiolab used to be known here. To differentiate their high end 'statement'
products they market a range of gear under the Dragon brand, including CD
players and amps. It's madly expensive, complex and packed with high tech. In
1988 though, Nakamichi decided that all their conspicuous technology used in the
Dragon could be refocused towards getting the very best sound with absolutely no
compromises. Out went mind-bogglingly complex auto-reverse mechanism with
automatic electronic azimuth adjustment, and in came a beautifully engineered
direct-drive, dual capstan unidirectional transport automated for convenience
and given remote control too. less than its flagship bigger brother, but sounded
even more stunning. Its feature list is Spartan by comparison - the usual logic
controlled transport keys in the middle, with fader up, down and REC MUTE
buttons beneath. Counter mode selectors and timer controls made a token gesture
towards domestic acceptability, and then there was the manual tape sector (for
types I, II and IV cassettes) with switchable EQ. For the first time on a
Nakamichi though, these weren't strictly necessary as the CR-7E could also chose
tape types automatically if desired. Adjustable playback azimuth - a grand name
for what NAD modestly call PLAY TRIM - meant the '7's record/replay head could
be motor-adjusted by up to two- thirds of a degree to play tapes recorded on
lesser decks to their best potential. There was switchable Dolby NR (B and C,
but as per Nak tradition, no HX or S). You also got an amazing set of meters
with switchable PEAK HOLD - and the claim that they read up to +10dB was no idle
boast! Although Nakamichi's rivals had offered auto tape calibration for many a
long year, Nak debuted theirs with the CR-7E. It was simple to use - you just
loaded a blank tape, pressed AUTO CALIBRATION, a light flashed for fifteen
seconds and you were ready to record. Sound quality is startling - better than
every other cassette deck in the world bar none; it even gives high quality
semi-pro open reels (like Revox's B77) a sharp slap around the face. With a
decent metal tape, you can casually record at +10dB, such are the Nak's stunning
discrete heads, and even beer-budget ferrics sound better than anyone else's
cassette deck running the most expensive metals. Pitch stability, dynamics,
depth perspective, noise levels - everything - is superb. Replay of
pre-recordeds is a revelation - if they're decent all-analogue copies they'll
trounce even a modern high end CD player. In fact, the Nak's resolution far
exceeds CDs - to fully hear what it's capable of you need live recordings or a

The Nakamichi ST-7 / ST-7E is a digital synthesis tuner with the Schotz Noise
Reduction technology. This revolutionary system improves effective stereo

rare, almost non-existent. According to one service engineer, the Dragon CT was
much more reliable and better sounding than the bigger TX-1000. I wouldn't know
but the goal was basically the same - and the same as that used in the original
Dragon cassette recorder, only on a larger scale.Off-center records are a pain
and there isn't much one can do if the record is pressed that way ! Well, there
is something one can do : search for the real center of the record and adjust
the turntable platter to budge so that the off-centered record can be read as if
it were not off-centered. No small feat on a cassette recorder (for proper head
azimuth) but imagine that on a record player !So, the little arm at the back
scans the record groove, decides where the "absolute center" is and the whole
turntable assembly then moves accordingly - the cart is no more pushed around
left and right and just reads the groove.The main tonearm was sourced from
Jelco.UPDATE ! If the TX-1000 was designed by Etsuro Nakamichi (but quite
probably built by Micro Seiki), the Dragon CT was "sourced" elsewhere :
Nakamichi commissioned Junichi Okumura, then at Fujiya Audio Ltd, to design the
CT after the basic goal outlined by Etsuro !This explains the large differences
in approach and engineering between the TX and the CT.Fujiya was later in the
1980s absorbed by NEC and units such as the Dragon CT were scrapped from the
books. And when NEC shut down its own audio/video activities in the mid 1990s,
well, the Dragon CT definitively vanished from the landscape.Thanks to
Shinichiro Okumura, son of Junichi, for unveiling this revealing bit of history
Two Speed Direct Drive Turntable DescriptionThe Nakamichi Dragon-CT turntable is
a 2-speed, integrated turntable system.The Dragon's platter is a massive glass/cast
alloy design with a dense rubber mat.The fully adjustable subchassis is high
mass and suspended.The Quartz motor is a direct drive type with electronic speed
control and switching.The most unusual feature of the Dragon turntable is the
additional arm which is used to check for disc eccentricity, and the two-part
platter which allows for it's correction.
