Peter Walker founded the business in 1936, all Quad products have displayed an
originality in design, born from a full and proper understanding of every aspect
of sound reproduction. A world leader in audio amplifier and electrostatic
speaker design, Quad has, over the years, made a major contribution to the
improvement of sound quality. This contribution has been recognised by awards
from around the world including the Queen's Award for Technological Achievement
in 1978 – the only one ever presented to an audio hi-fi equipment
manufacturer.For many people, buying their first Quad sound system can be a life

and even grandchildren of our first customers.The history of Quad is one of
technical achievement in the field of sound reproduction. It is a story that
began with the Quad 1 amplifier, which brought the benefits of 15 years
knowledge and experience in professional audio and industrial products to the
task of making the most accurate domestic audio amplifier of its age. A few
years later, in 1953, the product which set the standard for amplifiers was the
Quad II Power Amplifier, the time of Queen Elizabeth's Coronation and the year
in which Mount Everest was finally conquered. This amplifier pioneered the
principle of cathode coupling through the output transformer to reduce harmonic
distortion to almost negligible levels. Such was its clear superiority that this
model remained in production for 18 years. Three years later, in 1956, Quad
demonstrated the first true full-range electrostatic loudspeaker. This
remarkable product (known later as the ESL 57) used a virtually mass-less
plastic film as a moving diaphragm between two charged plates. Compared
with moving coil loudspeakers, the ESL 57 was free of unwanted colourations and
distortions. This landmark product remained in production, virtually unchanged,
for 28 years.In 1967 Quad introduced its first transistorised amplifiers, the 33
Control Unit and the 303 power amplifier. These amplifiers introduced a new 'Triples'
output stage that solved all the thermal instability problems that plagued early
transistor designs. Radical in both circuit design and appearance, they went on
to win a Design Council Award in 1969.Amplifier performance
took a further step forward in 1975 with the arrival of the Quad 405 'Current
Dumping' amplifier. This remarkable new circuit topology remains one of the few
truly original amplifier designs and has featured in Quad products ever since.
For this technology Quad was awarded the Queen's Award for Technological
Achievement in 1978. Numerous other prestigious awards were presented to
Quad from all over the world. In 1981 Quad announced the ESL 63; a full-range
electrostatic loudspeaker based upon two sets of concentric annular electrodes
fed through sequential. delay lines. This patented system produces a sound
pressure pattern identical to the theoretical ideal of a point source origin.
Once again a Quad electrostatic loudspeaker became the reference standard around
the world.The arrival of the radical 77 Series in 1994 introduced the concept of
a fully integrated sound system operated with a two-way remote control system.
The system boasted numerous new types of circuit technology as well as some of
the most advanced control software seen in a consumer product. Two years after
the launch, Quad was presented with the 'European Amplifier of the Year' award
for the 77 Series Integrated Amplifier. In 1999, Quad launched the successor to
the 77 series, the current 99 series, and supplemented this with a range of
moving-coil loudspeakers, the L series and two new models of electrostatic - the
ESL 988 and ESL 989.Every product in our current portfolio has received
international acclaim, resulting in Quad receiving more ‘Product of the Year’
awards in 2004-2005 than at any prior period in the company’s history. These are
just some of the highlights from Quad’s pedigree line of technological
achievement. However, Quad has never indulged in technical ‘one-upmanship’. The
technology is there for a purpose – that has remained constant over the years.
To reproduce music in a form that is the closest approach to the original.

Electrostatics are Quad's latest reference loudspeakers and like their
predecessors should be regarded amongst the finest loudspeakers in the world
today. In areas such as transparency, and lack of colouration, they are without
peer.It should be noted that whilst moving-coil loudspeakers are the norm, the
physical principles upon which they work are fatally flawed - and not even the
latest advances in materials science can address their shortcomings.Quad alone
has sought a different path - to push the boundaries of electrostatic technology
to the point where our ESLs are closer to the ideal loudspeaker than any
other.Quad's patented panel technology results in a combination of the speed and
accuracy only possible from an electrostatic loudspeaker; together with the
imaging and soundstaging only possible from a theoretically ideal point source;
and the coherence and continuity of a single drive unit.With possibly the lowest
distortion of any loudspeaker, the ESL can be enjoyed for hours on end without
fatigue; never adding or subtracting from the original recording. Even at low

The ESL-2805 is the smaller of the two models using six panels rather than the 8
of the larger model. The inner two panels of the ESL-2805s construction, again
utilise the concentric anode rings for point source imaging, and the outer rings
are again linear in their response. Whilst absolute bass extension and dynamic
ability is less than it’s larger brother, the ESL-2805 offers a
sublime performance.The
clarity of mid-range for which the Quad’s are most famed is
fully in evidence, as is the sparkling detail and transparency that has long
been thehallmark of this series. Their response characteristics are virtually
identical and a base weight of 34.8kg together with the rigid bracing, ensures
they are suitably deep inbass and dynamic enough to fill all but the largest of
listening rooms. For the Quad aficionado without the need or desire for the

è costruito con MDF rinforzato da 18mm, con una scelta di quattro finiture in
vero legno. Ogni cabinet è ricoperto da ben sette strati di laccatura "piano
finish", per ognuno dei quali sono stati impiegati singoli cicli d'asciugatura
di 24 ore.Per garantire la più fedele trasmissione possibile del segnale sono
stati impiegati terminali 'bi-wiring' di alta qualità con placcatura in oro e
cavi interni di tipo oxygen-free. La gamma completa è comprensiva di quattro
diffusori stereo, un canale centrale ed un subwoofer (per impieghi AV), tutti

Mini monitor loudspeakers have distinct advantages both for near field
monitoring and for music reproduction in the home. Using small drivers offer the
possibility of seamless integration for the delivery of accurate power response
both for the forward axis and in the room itself. The 12L Classic loudspeaker is
equipped with the same internal characteristics as its smaller sibling including
the long-throw Kevlar cone driver, a tweeter that utilises a
precision-engineered waveguide for a totally coherent midrange and treble, but
now incorporates enhanced bass capabilities for a more realistic sound
experience.Its cabinet maintains a multi-layer construction, combining two
varied wood materials to reduce panel resonance allowing the cabinet to produce
a more solid sound, and incorporates twin reflex ports placed in its rear to

Stereo Preamplifier, which replaces Quad's 99 Series Preampliflier. The Elite
Pre forms the heart of any system in which it is placed, and a great deal of
work has been undertaken to further enhance the excellent levels of musical
transparency delivered by its 99 Series predecessor. This has been achieved by
careful component selection and re-tuning of the signal path, whilst maintaining
the advanced facilities that are unique to Quad's solid-state preamps, including
Quad Link and Amp Bus connectivity, bypass-switchable filter adjustment for bass
and treble, and Quad's unique 'Tilt' control that tailors the entire frequency

Elite Mono, Elite FM and Elite PreQuad has announced the new Elite Series Stereo
Power Amplifier, which replaces Quad's 99 Series Stereo Amplifier. The Quad
Elite Stereo power amp has been carefully revised to ensure they retain their
predecessors' acclaimed musicality, whilst delivering enhanced punch and drive,
alongside greater finesse and resolution. New ultra-low-noise transformers are
used, and all power supply components have been specially selected following
extensive listening tests. Delivering 2x80-watts of power, instantaneous
overload recovery and full protection against over-driving without resorting to
output line fuses or relays, which degrade the quality of the audio signal. Quad
claims the the Elite Stereo amp delivers more sonic presence and impact than

The QSP Stereo Power Amplifier is a by-product of
the famed Quad 909 Stereo. This product was designed in keeping with the
traditional built of QUAD Power Amplifiers, but is right up with the latest
technology and the finest audiophile components available. With 140W per channel
into an 8 ohm load, and plenty more into lower impedances ensures that there is
ample power into a wide range of speakers, including the QUAD ESL range.
Current Dumping - The QSP Amplifier incorporates QUAD's patented current dumping
technology developed by QUAD's founder Peter Walker, and is one of the finest
audio amplifiers available. One of the few truly innovative amplifier topologies,
it is essentially a combination of two amplifiers to give the best of both in
each channel. The current dumping circuit like the Quad QSP Amplifier consists
of a very high quality class A low-power amp which provides the details of the
signal, while a high-power current dumping section provides the grip to keep the
speakers under control. These two amplifier circuits are combined with a
precision network to perfectly impose the finesse of the class A output onto the
power of the current dumper.This technology eliminates the problems of crossover
distortion, quiescent current adjustment, thermal tracking and transistor
matching. There are no internal adjustments or alignments and the choice of
power transistor types is less restrictive.

The QMP Mono Power Amplifier is a by-product of
the earlier 909 Mono with enhancements distinctly noticeable in amplifier
construction and circuitry, and is capable of producing an accurately balanced
XLR. Moreover, the new Elite QMP now incorporates a ‘current dumping’ feature
allowing for a cleaner, more versatile performance. The QMP Amplifier is a
bridged mono bloc version of the QUAD QSP Stereo Power Amplifier and can be used
